Romans 1:16-17

Hi all!
For tomorrow we will be reading together Romans 1:16-17.
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.  For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, 'The righteous shall live by faith.'"
The gospel reveals the righteousness of God in that all people are sinners and deserving of God's just condemnation.  However, for God to save sinners and to remain the just judge of all the earth, the requirements of the Law must be perfectly met and the penalty for sin must be paid by someone who himself has not violated the Law.  Thus, God becomes human and perfectly keeps the law for us and pays the penalty which we deserve.  In this way, God's justice is upheld while at the same time being able to pardon sinners.  Hence, the gospel reveals "the righteousness of God."  And it is this gospel which is the "power of God for salvation to everyone who believes."  By simply coming to Christ in faith, and believing he has done everything for us, salvation is granted to us as a gift.  Praise be to God!  Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
Blessings,
Hexon
