Our Purpose for Life Groups

07.24.18 | Bible Study Fellowship Discipleship Prayer by Loren Benson

Our Purpose for Weekly Life Groups

24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)

In our Life Groups, our shared life and gatherings will be guided by the following goals:
    1. Meet God through his Word Faithfully and Expectantly. (Psalms 19:7-11; 2 Peter 1:3,4)
The Bible will play a central role in our Life Groups because it holds the words of life. We need God’s Word more than we need food, and there are always more riches to be seen, enjoyed and applied to our lives. Our desire is for each participant to study the Scriptures expectantly, with the eyes of faith, anticipating God to speak and move each time we open his book.
    2. Prayerfully Depend on the Lord. (Philippians 4:6,7; Hebrews 4:14-16)
Prayer will be the regular, visible engine of our Life Group Communities. We will look to God for everything we need, never taking his provision for granted. When we are alone and when we are together, we will be a people of prayer – always adoring, always confessing, always thanking, always asking.
    3. Worship God in Song. (Psalm 9:2; Ephesians 5:19)
Singing has a unique way of bringing our heart, soul, mind, and strength together to focus entirely and completely on our Mighty God. In an age of distraction, singing grabs the attention of all our senses and focuses us on God.
    4. Know and Serve One Another Persistently. (1 Thessalonians 2:7,8; Hebrews 3:12,13)
Week-in and week-out, we will work to know each other more and more deeply – sharing our hearts and lives, praying for one another, asking questions and bearing one another’s burdens. And, with everything we learn about each other -- good, bad or otherwise -- we will strive to love and serve one another, meeting each others needs, encouraging growth and helping one another to thrive.
    5. Pursue Disciples for Jesus Boldly and Globally (Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 1:8)
Our commission from Jesus is clear. Go and make disciples. God saved us in order to send us. We will strive to be lights in a world of darkness and despair. We are God’s chosen means of spreading the Good News and winning worship for himself in every corner of the earth. Therefore, we are to be bold where we are, and we are eagerly behind what God is doing among the nations!
