Ezekiel 37:3-6

Hi everyone!

This Sunday we will be reading together Ezekiel 37:3-6.

“And he said to me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’ And I answered, ‘O Lord GOD, you know.’ Then he said to me, ‘Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the LORD.’”

What an amazing passage that depicts what God does for every person who places faith in him.  God commands Ezekiel to speak to people who have clearly been dead for a long time.  These are dry bones.  And he commands him to say to these dry bones, “hear the word of the LORD.”  Thus, it is the word of God that possess the power to make dead people come to life.  These corpses did not choose to come to life.  These dry bones did not choose to rise to their feet.  These skeletons came to life solely by the sovereign, monergistic, unilateral work of God.  And this is, in fact, how every spiritually dead person is brought to life and brought into a saving relationship with Christ.  In Romans 1:16 scripture tells us the gospel is “the power of God unto salvation.”  It is the word of God alone that makes alive dead sinners.  And Ephesians 1:5 tells us that “even when we were dead in our trespasses, [God] made us alive together with Christ.”  In the end, our salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone and to God be the glory alone!

See you Sunday!

Blessings,
